Spring 2024 – Digital Design for Screen-Printing
Designing the t-shirt for Missouri State's Student Orientation and Registration program (SOAR) was an exciting challenge that required careful consideration of various factors. SOAR requested the use of only two spot colors, which presented a challenge–to make a shirt that is bright, and easy to identify, but also budget-friendly. First and foremost, I kept in mind the key themes of friendliness, visibility, and the shirt's role as a designation of leadership. These aspects were crucial in ensuring that the design would resonate with both incoming students and the SOAR leaders. To capture the essence of the program, I decided on an illustration featuring a bear flying an airplane, embarking on a new adventure, amidst clouds that spell out 'SOAR'. The imagery of a bear taking flight not only reflects the idea of soaring to new heights but also adds a touch of whimsy and approachability, aligning perfectly with the friendly atmosphere of the orientation program. For the back of the shirt, I wanted to reinforce the concept of leadership. Therefore, I incorporated clouds again, this time arranged to spell out the word 'LEADER', with the Missouri State word mark positioned underneath. This design element serves as a clear identifier for the SOAR leaders. Throughout the design process, I paid close attention to detail, ensuring that the chosen spot colors would pop against the shirt's background while maintaining readability and visual appeal. By balancing creativity with practicality, I was able to produce a t-shirt design that not only meets the program's objectives but also embodies the spirit of Missouri State's SOAR program.
